Have you given up or are you a warrior?

It blows my mind when the media lead with negative traits of ADHD and special needs in general.  It is everywhere. You see, time and time again throughout history the big change makers, the big hitters, the big risk takers, the greats, the outside the box thinkers, have been people with ADHD.  So why do we only seem to hear of the negatives?  It is something that makes me cranky.  

Well it could be because these are kids are challenging to parent, the negatives are in your face.  Everyday on facebook groups there are parents at their wits end.  They are ready to give up.  They have had enough.  They don't believe their life can be better.  They are just surviving.  Their tiredness shadows the positives.

When I talk to these people about the Calming the Chaos program their first reaction is often to tell me all the reasons why it wouldn't work for them.  They have tried routine before, they don't have time.  They believe their family is beyond help.  I am calling BS on this.  I don't believe it.  I believe that every family can be functional and happy, despite your situation.  What is more, I believe that you don't have another minute, no not another second to waste, just surviving. It is why my family continue to fund this program and all the work we do (you have got to be kidding if you think this makes us any money).  The reason I do it is because I care about you and your family.  I want to show you that you are a warrior.  That you have been given your special needs child because you can handle it.  Because you got this.  Because you are already an awesome parent - you simply wouldn't be reading this blog if you didn't care.  

I want to show you how I got my family functional and happy, despite having a husband who has ADHD and is often outrageous and unpredictable (See this blog), despite having a debilitating chronic health condition myself, despite having 3 boys that are too much for many to handle, despite having a son with severe ADHD and learning difficulties.  You can do it too and I want to cheer you on.

I am in the business of helping families restore their joy and finding calm in the chaos of life.  I love it.  Every week when I read the testimonials my heart sings.  I created The Functional Family with the sole purpose to help other families.  It is everything I wish I knew 10 years ago.  We continually get inspired by the results that Calming the Chaos gets.  

So I want to ask you... if you sit still for a minute and really think about it... have you given up or surrendered to the chaos? are you just living day to day?... or have you got some fight in you? Do you see yourself as a change maker? Remember nothing changes, unless something changes.

So I want you to spend some time looking at your life like a corporate would look at a company.  What areas do you struggle with?  What times are the most unpleasant?  What times are the most stressful?  Then let's brainstorm ways we can improve these times.  Let's make them more enjoyable.  Remember behaviours whether performed consciously or unconsciously are just habits and habits are formed by routine.
